On-Ice Etiquette Rules

Safety on the ice is the first concern.

The skater(s) whose music is playing has priority on the ice and all others skaters on the ice must yield the right of way. Therefore, all skaters on the ice need to be aware of whose music is playing. The skater with priority may have to notify others on the ice by calling out "excuse me" or "coming through" if they suspect others are not aware of them.

Skaters in a lesson have second priority on the ice and others on the ice whose music is not playing need to yield the right of way.

A skater whose music is not playing or is not in a lesson needs to be aware of the other skaters on the ice and respectfully yield the right of way as appropriate. This is especially true for other skaters entering a jump or spin.

Because of the inherent danger, skaters not actively practising their skill should either stand by the boards or leave the ice surface.

As a courtesy to others, skaters and parents should make every effort to not block the doorways to the ice, keep the doors closed, and keep the aisles clear. Conversations should take place off the ice surface before or after skating. Except in cases of extenuating circumstances, no one other than skaters, coaches and assistants are permitted on the ice.

No gum, candy or other food is to be taken on the ice.

Behaviour, Conduct and Skating Attire

All skaters are expected to abide by the Central Ontario Section Code of Conduct. Skaters and their parents need to understand they represent the Pine Point Figure Skating Club and therefore, are expected to conduct themselves in a manner that is reasonable and acceptable, including displaying good sportsmanship, being courteous and not wilfully damaging property or committing acts which are considered an offence. Any acts that breach the code of conduct will be reviewed by the Board of Directors and could result in disciplinary action that includes suspension and/or expulsion from the Club. Skaters are required to wear proper figure skating attire - leggings, skating skirt or dress, warm-up suits - no jeans or inappropriate attire.

Music Rules

Music tapes or CDs should be handed in to the Music Room prior to the start of the session.  Music will be played on a rotation basis during each session. Each session will start at a different point in the rotation, but the order will be the same every time. Guest skater's music will be played at the end of the rotation, time permitting. Keep in mind that coach's requests take priority and will be interspersed throughout the rotating order. If a skater waves off their music, they forfeit their turn and will have to wait until the rotation is complete before their music will be played again.

Coaches can request any music they need to be played for their lessons.  No music is to be requested during stroking. Coaches may make up to 2 requests only per 15-minute segment plus one restart.

Skaters may request music to be played, however requests will be prioritized on a first come, first served basis and will be played in a fair manner.  Coach requests take precedence.

Parents of the skaters should not disturb or interfere with the person playing the music. They should not be requesting music on behalf of the skaters or coaches. It is recognised that the lounge area is a warm place from which to watch the session however, parents need to respect the job the music person is trying to do. If the guideline is not followed, no one other than the person playing the music or those conducting official club business will be allowed in the lounge.

Volunteers

Pine Point FSC is a non-profit organisation run by a volunteer Board of Directors. Volunteer assistance from the membership is expected and very much appreciated. A duty roster will be posted to provide opportunities for parents to volunteer their services and Senior skaters are encouraged to volunteer to be Program Assistants with Canskate.
